This game centers around the apocalyptic fall of a civilization. If engaging with subject matter such as this is not healthy or safe for you, please stop reading here.

"Of all things visible, the highest is the heaven of the fixed stars." -Nicolaus Copernicus.

why we count the stars is a TTRPG about collapse. Gather a group of two to five players, and play as Starseeds-- oracles channeling stellar light into magical workings-- as they struggle in a fight against the clock while the stars rapidly blink out from the sky. Will you be able to prepare humanity for the coming darkness, or will you falter beneath the weight of the first future you have not been able to foretell?

NOTE: This is a playtest version of the game, and will likely undergo several updates!

INCLUDES:

  • 20 pages of oracular goodness (and a plaintext version as well!)
  • At least three health bars
  • Four playbooks, each connected to a classical element
  • A GM guide with tips, tricks, and an encounter table
  • A time limit that is always, always ticking down.

PLANNED:

  • A guide for a custom setting made for this game!
  • Two sequel games set in the ages following the events of this one: carry on in a carrion dawn, a solo-play TTRPG using candles; and zeitgeber, a GM-less TTRPG about exploring a world that once was lost to you.
